Southwold Luggers are one of our favourite yachts having such a wonderful history.  The pond yachtsare based on the fishing boats used in the 19th century from the beach at Southwold in Suffolk.

There has been an active model yacht club in Southwold since 1894. For many years this design was used for racing and it is still possible to purchase a fibreglass hull of this lugger.

This particular yacht was carved from solid, with a separate deck, and has a long wooden keel with lead ballast. It is a very evocative hull shape from a bygone era.

The hull has its traditional  paintwork of black above the waterline and red below.  It appears that it has been repainted at some point.

Overall the hull is in good order and the deck has  a wonderful colour with plank lines and original fittings. There is a lovely faux fish hatch.

The "lugger" rig has been replaced in recent years. It is as was originally designed for this yacht and is in good condition. The sails are egyptian cotton but appear to be home made. There are no holes or tears just a couple of stains.

She is a very decorative yacht with a wonderful and interesting background.

The stand is not as old as the yacht but is included in the sale.
