Winford Model Yachts were made by Kingswinford Forge Ltd in the 1920's
Little else is known about this particular pond yacht manufacturer. The yachts were intended to be raced and different sized rigs and keels could be purchased for different windspeeds and sailing conditions.
The hulls were made from seamless steel and had wooden keels fitted with lead ballast. The keels were bolted through the hulls and could be changed depending on the circumstances.
They were quite sophisticated racing yachts and were very expensive to buy new.
This may explain why they are now very rare. This is only the third Winford we have been able to offer for sale in 10 years.
This particular yacht has a Winford 20 brass name plaque on the stern. The plaque is also part of the fixing for the brass rudder and self steering gear.
The hull is a metal pressing and is in good order with its original black paintwork. This yacht has been sailed so there are some marks and scratches.
The deck and its fittings are original however there some marks in the varnish.
The rig is original and in good condition for its age. The sails are especially good with no holes or tears and just a few stains.
The spars are original but some of the hooks and bowsies are quite rudimentary so are probably replacements. Some of the rigging has been replaced.
The wooden box is original but is missing its lid.
This is a very rare opportunity.
