According to Basil Hartley in "Toy Boats" Bassett-Lowke only produced the Mercury for a short time in 1929. This could explain why this is the only one we have seen.
We have been unable to find a mention of Mercury in the Bassett-Lowke story or in the catalogues we have.
Remarkably she is totally original and in exceptional condition.
It appears that most of this model were made with clockwork motors. However this particular one has its original B-L electric motor. Please note that the motor has not been tested and there is no battery holder.
The paintwork is wonderful especially when you consider the age of the craft. There is a small amount of paint loss on the chines and on the bow and transom. The Mercury and B-L transfers are near perfect.
The original steering system still works and the rudder and prop are original.
The windscreen is original but has a crack and has been resoldered at some point.
It is unlikely that the stand or the ensign are original but are included in the sale if required.
This really is a wonderful opportunity as this motor launch is exceptionally rare especially in this condition.
